SLOG® is a residential slab and footing design program for Professional Engineers who want a fast, easy and convenient method of analysis of the soil structure interaction of footing on reactive (or expansive) soils.

SLOG® is used for analysing residential stiffened rafts, strip footings and waffle rafts in accordance with the AS 2870-2011 “Residential slabs and footings” design procedure by engineering principles. The analysis uses the ‘Mitchell Method’ as stated in Section 4 and Appendix F of AS 2870-2011.

Industry Standard, and now more convenient

SLOG® has been a trusted tool for companies and academic institutions in the design of footings on expansive soil since the 1980’s FORTRAN SLOG®. SLOG® provides a simple tool for the analysis of the soil structure interaction of footing on reactive (or expansive) soils.The updated online tool now provides the same trusted calculation, but in an easier to use interface.

Three different footing types are able to be designed; and the designer can choose whether SLOG determines the footing depth with the minimum amount of reinforcing steel to meet the stiffness requirement of AS 2870 – 2011 clause 4.4 (e), the  strength requirement of clause 4.4 (d) and the ductility requirement of clause  4.4 (f), or alternatively the designer can input the amount of steel reinforcement, and SLOG will determine the required footing depth, warning the designer if the steel is insufficient to meet strength and ductility requirements.

The original FORTRAN program SLOG was launched in 1988. Since the 1980's SLOG has been widely used by geotechnical engineers for the design of footings on expansive soil. In 2008 the original program was converted into VBA for Excel Applications for use on modern systems. From working with our customers, the program has undergone many updates incorporating user feedback and suggestions for feature enhancements.

In 2023, SLOG® online launched with the aim of increasing productivity for our users and increasing flexibility for engineering businesses.
